Electro Plated Brazed Grinding Tools
Electro-Plated Grinding Tools

Electro-plated tools are a single layer of diamond or CBN, mixed in a nickel bath deposited onto a substrate for maximum diamond or CBN exposure. These tools can be electro-plated with grit sizes ranging from 20 mesh for aggressive, rough grinding to 1200+ mesh designed to hold shapes and tight tolerances.

Brazed Bond Grinding Tools

A single layer of diamond or CBN is deposited onto a substrate with a layer of high temperature brazing alloy. Brazed tools offer a tough bond holding the diamond to the substrate. Like electro-plated the brazed bond allows for maximum diamond or CBN exposure. Brazed bonded tools can be brazed with 20 to 120 mesh and is used in roughing applications.

Electro-plated and Brazed tools have their advantages over metal and resin bonded tools:

  • Lower initial cost
  • Freer grinding, resulting in faster material removal
  • Less power required
  • The ability to hold form
  • Eliminating time for dressing
  • Safer at higher RPM operations
  • The ability to strip and re-plate the substrate

In some application these tools are interchangeable. Our design engineers can help evaluate and determine which product is best for your application.

Electro-plated or Brazed tooling is used to grind a broad range of materials:

  • Pre-fired & post fired ceramics
  • Optics materials
  • Quartz
  • Glass
  • Graphite
  • Carbide
  • Silicon
  • Heat treated alloys
  • Composites
